If there was one desktop 3D printer manufacturer who has taken a lead within the education space in the past couple years, it would have to be BEEVERYCREATIVE. They have taken it upon themselves not only to promote their machines with a focus on education, but to also build them in a way that is most feasible for schools looking to bring the technology into the classroom. We saw this when they released their BEETHEFIRST 3D printer about two year ago. We see it again with today’s announcement as well.
Today, BEEVERYCREATIVE announces the introduction of BEETHEFIRST+, a new 3D printer model which includes four BEE Printers and one BEE device. BEETHEFIRST+ includes internal hardware improvements as well as a more powerful extruder that works with all “heated bed free types of filament” that are currently available on the market.
As part of the launch of these products, BEEVERYCREATIVE is offering users who purchase the normal BEETHEFIRST+ printer with 15 BEESUPPLIES, as well as anyone who purchases any of these new machines with a 1 month subscription to new 3D printing subscription-based marketplace 3DShook.
Two other versions of the new BEETHEFIRST+ 3D printer and one additional none-related 3D printer have also been unveiled and announced today. They are the BEE ME, BEE IN SCHOOL, and Hello BEE Prusa printers.
BEE ME is a “Makers’ Edition” of the BEETHEFIRST+. It features a modified cover that is easier to open and said to be made of a more “workshop friendly” material.
“We expect Makers to explore BEE ME to the limit, and so it is sold as a product in development,” Diogo Quental, CEO of BEEVERYCREATIVE explains. “Nevertheless, Makers can expect the same reliability, toughness, robustness and readiness for heavy duty as [with other printers] from the BEETHEFIRST family.”
Those members of fablabs and business incubators who purchase the BEE ME will get BEECONNECT absolutely free. This is part of a new commercial approach that the company is taking in order to convince Maker communities to purchase their printer. As for BEECONNECT, it allows users to use their 3D printers without any computer. It features a Raspberry Pi inside and can utilize G-code created by other software.
The BEE IN SCHOOL is the BEETHEFIRST+ version aimed at use within educational institutions around the world. It features a cover which has been deemed “more appropriate for the school environment”.
“We kept the focus on usability, reliability, portability, balanced printing volume, and safety (no heated bed),” Quental explained. “The Education sector is key for the 3D Revolution and likewise for our strategy. We keep working on finding more partners to ensure we properly surf this wave. We thank our partners, and in particular Phil Cotton, our Ambassador for Education, for all the work done so far.”
Also as an added incentive for students to purchase this new 3D printer, BEEVERYCREATIVE will offer the BEECONNECT completely free to any student who purchases one.
The last of the modified 3D printers announced today, is the Hello BEE Prusa, which was created in partnership with a company called Hello3DPrintingWorld, and based on the opensource design work of Josef Průša.
“Hello BEE Prusa has been designed to be one of the best in the market,” says Quental. “It stands-out for its modularity and versatility, but at a hard to beat price, considering it has a heated bed and a double extruder. Half of our team is in love with it; the other half is too shy to admit it. Trust us, we all feel really enthusiastic about this BEE!”
As for pricing, the BEETHEFIRST+, BEE ME and BEE IN SCHOOL will all be priced at €1449, while the Hello BEE Prusa will only cost €529. The BEECONNECT (Standard cover) will be €149 and the BEECONNECT (Premium cover) is €249. All of these products will be available for pre-order starting on June 1, 2015.
