You know that when Amazon jumps or board with a technology or product, they think pretty highly of it. Back in June of last year, Amazon.com launched their marketplace dedicated to the sale of 3D printers and supplies. This was just the start of their 3D printing ambitions however. Ten months later they teamed with their first 3D printing partner 3DLT.com to offer their customers a variety of 3D printed items. This was a major step for the 3D printing industry as a whole, as now the largest online retailer was able to offer items which could be printed to order. Here we are, two and a half months later, and Amazon has added another partner to their lineup, this time Sculpteo.com
Sculpteo, probably the biggest competitor to the on-demand 3D printing marketplace giant, Shapeways, features 3D prints made with 45 different materials, colors and finishes, including silver, alumide, as well as various plastics. They have become known for their speedy turnaround times, and awesome customer service. Perhaps that’s why Amazon has decided to partner with this five year old company.
“We are delighted to see that Amazon is taking part into the game of 3D Printing, and foresee that this will open a brand new set of opportunities for 3D Printing Designers,” stated Clement Moreau, co-founder of Sculpteo.
Initially there are under 40 designs available on Sculpteo’s Amazon store, which includes everything from 3D printed rings, to iPhone cases, to tea lights, and more. The products are created by various designers on the Sculpteo website, and are priced anywhere from $8.22 for an alumide pendant, to $562 for a 3D printed decorative vase.
